
Working with four of five species of rhinoceros Shurter has been involved with the captive management of rhinos since 1979. As the Director of Conservation at White Oak Conservation Center he oversees captive programs for black, white, Indian and Sumatran rhinos and supports field conservation efforts through the IRF. Currently serving as the Chair of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Rhino Advisory Group he advises zoos on rhinoceros breeding, health, husbandry and research priorities.
